Concerns about ACA for Mental Health Providers

Dear Provider,

The future of the Affordable Care Act is in question.  This, we are aware, is of grave concern to Mental Health Practitioners.

We will keep you informed as we get information on coverage, benefits, limits on care, and other topics that can impact your practice.

This week, our benefits verification specialists have encountered situations where patients have benefit cards indicating they are covered by an Exchange plan, but the companies that manage the Behavioral Health benefits are not able to verify the patients’ benefits.  We are investigating to see if a delay in getting patient benefits into their computer systems is the problem, or if this is an indicator of a bigger issue regarding the Exchange plans.

If we find that one of your patient’s benefits cannot be verified, we will notify you immediately so that you can contact your patient, or prospective patient.

Information on payers who no longer participate in the Exchange Plans will be sent to you as they announce their termination.  We will also let you know what options are available to you and your patients.

As we have more information, we will pass it along to you.

In the meantime, be sure to ask your patients if they have any changes to their insurance coverage at each visit.

Our website includes a sign you can print out to hang in your waiting room, reminding patients to inform you of any changes to their coverage.  It is located under the Forms/Resources tab.

Our staff is available to assist you in these interesting and changing times.

Health Assets is committed to the continued health and prosperity of New York Behavioral Health practices and practitioners, as well as, the population you serve.

 All my best,

 Carmel L Gold, LCSW BCD
